Airport Worker Takes A Quick Nap In Cargo Hold Of Plane...Wakes Up 35,000 Feet In The Air

NBC – An Alaska Airlines flight made an emergency landing in Seattle on Monday afternoon after the pilot heard banging from within the aircraft, which officials said came from a ramp worker who had fallen asleep in the cargo hold.

Alaska Airlines Flight 448, bound for Los Angeles, was in the air 14 minutes before turning around, according to a brief statement released by the airline.

Jamie Davis, a passenger, said it was just about when the nose was lifting off the ground that “we started hearing yelling for help and whatnot.”

“It was just loud pounding,” Davis said. “You know, it sounded like there was something stuck in the wheel well of a car or something, is what the pounding sounded like. It was just him pounding to get the plane to stop.”

The captain declared an emergency and returned to Seattle, the airline said. “After landing, a ramp agent was found inside the front cargo hold, which is pressurized and temperature-controlled.”

The airline said the agent, an employee of Menzies Aviation, “told authorities he had fallen asleep.” A source familiar with the incident told NBC News the worker had apparently taken a nap in the cargo hold and didn’t wake up until the plane was in the air.

Worst ways to ever wake up, ranked –

4) With no memory of the night before next to an overweight hard 4 wearing a club wristband.

3) In a hospital bed.

2) On any Monday morning, ever.

1) In the cargo hold of an airplane flying through the sky at 35,000 feet up in the air.

Probably a pretty big shock to the system there. Take a quick little catnap on the job, cuddle up in between some soft Samsonite luggage, next thing you know you’re 6 miles up in the sky just chillin in between two roaring jet engines.

And don’t sleep on how terrifying this had to be for the passengers either. As if there’s not enough stuff you have to worry about on a flight. Bumps, sharp drops, extreme turbulence, all stuff you anticipate up there – human screams coming from the floor beneath you, that’s not one of them.

PS – How hard does this dude nap by the way? I wake up if somebody softly steps on a floorboard in the other room. This guy plows down a runway unsecured in the middle of a jet going 200 mph then takes off into the air and doesn’t budge. Next level nap game.
